POP WILL EAT ITSELF

Maybe you can help me here...
I was speaking recently with a friend about the state of fashion these days how everyone is a designer. And by everyone I mean, Lilo, Olsen Sisters, Jessica Simpson, Paris and Nikki Hilton, Nicole Ritchie, Coco Rocha, and any other untrained model or Hollywood celebrity I forgot to mention. Valentino has been replaced by accessories designers, Lacroix is up in the air. Whatever happened to the people who study design, believe in good design and will defend it at any cost? Cheap chic is in- look rich pay nothing, which usually ends up looking cheap eventually because everyone else has it or it is made of pleather. What's next, everyone is an artist? Probably-already.
Has pop culture truely imploded, has it become a black hole that is self-consuming? And if so, what's next?

John Patrick Organic Paper Bag Pants **

In the vein of YSL, John Patrick brings us a chic and slimming washed silk paper bag pant. Now, I'm not just saying this because of the shape or the 80's silhouette, but for the fact that I don't remember ever feeling so glamorous in a pair of pants, well at least not since '98 when I lived in my vintage white leather side snap ups. Gone is the Lower East Side mullet and 3 color way highlights- an inevitable evolution from cool to classic and back to cool again. Made in the USA, this is a style that will be here for seasons to come. But hurry production is limited and you might just have to wait till Spring '10 to get yours...

Sunbrelli to the Rescue

Zig-zagging my way through the Christmas bear villages and Jelly Belly free samples at the San Francisco International Gift Fair yesterday, I hit an oasis when I came across the Keena booth. The Brelli, a 100% biodegradable and Cradle to Cradle certified umbrella is a masterpiece. Available in both clear and black, the black color actually has a special UV coating that block's 30% of the sun's rays, protecting one from both rain and shine. Genius! Across the way was Mathew Marks Agency where Molly M. of Molly M. Designs is now doing laser cut outs of her jewelry patterns on paper creating beautiful eco-friendly and affordable art for the masses. Finally, Be Sweet had a beautiful selection of new products, including luxuriously woven alpaca cable knit scarves in an array of earthen colors plus a new line of fair trade handbags. Next stop Vegas at the end of the month for a preview of the best of SS'10 green fashion. Stay tuned....

Mimi Mascot 101

Sometimes known as Mable, Madge, or Molly...She is often seen in the mid-mornin' hours laying on the front steps of Eco Citizen sunning herself. I often am asked "Is this your dog?" as she sombers lazily on the sidewalk tiles squinting to protect her sensitive bulging eyes from the sun's UV rays. As well wishers approach for a conciliatory pat, she scampers inside to safety,--" don't take it personally" I say, "she does it to everyone- she's just shy". A senior dog from Muttville (www.muttville.org), Mimi, a chiuaua, yet often mistaken for a miniature husky, is around the age of 8, half toothless, hence the tongue trick, with the disposition of a cat. Most of the time you can find her sleeping behind the cash wrap on her red blanketed box, yet every once in awhile she will come out and say 'hello' with a downward dog stretch and a cautious sniff. Despite her feline personality she rarely barks except for when hearing the pitter-patter of toddlers feet, a sound which seems to send her huffing and puffing, but as they say dogs can't be scared and hungry at the same time so be sure to bring a salmon snack and she'll be your best friend-- well as much as a cat can be.

Yummy! Just received the first of the Fall shipments from John Patrick Organic and I'm already in love with this merino cashmere oversized cableknit sweater with pockets. Yes, you heard me right--POCKETS! You will never forget your keys while wearing this baby. I immediately slipped it on and started day dreaming of the different ways I could wear and accessorize it and the possibilities were endless...you can fill in the blanks. Learn more...
